CAMPAIGN FOR BUTLER COUNTY COMMON PLEAS JUDGE
Matthew McCune

BACKGROUND
Matt and his wife, Alexandra, are lifelong Butler residents who have chosen to raise their two children, Ben and Sophia, in the same community they love. A 2004 graduate of Butler High School, Matt continued his passion for baseball as a four-year member of the Seton Hill University team while earning his B.A. in Political Science in 2008. He later pursued his J.D. at Duquesne University Kline School of Law, graduating in 2013.

Matt’s legal career began with hands-on experience as a certified legal intern in the Butler County District Attorney's Office. He later served as a summer clerk for the Dillon, McCandless, King, Coulter & Graham firm in Cranberry Township. He joined his current firm, Conlon Tarker, P.C., during his final year of law school where he has practiced and honed his legal skills for over 12 years. His work has focused on civil litigation, estate administration, and estate planning, with additional experience in Orphans' Court, family law, and criminal matters.

Recognized as a Super Lawyers Rising Star from 2017 to 2024—an honor awarded to just 2.5% of Pennsylvania lawyers under 40—Matt has also represented Butler County on the Board of Governors of the Western Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association.

Beyond his legal career, Matt is deeply committed to the Butler community. He has served on the Board of Directors and Board of Managers of the Butler County Family YMCA, as Past President and Board Member of Butler Downtown, and on boards supporting Butler youth baseball, Butler Catholic School, and the Butler County Drug and Alcohol Advisory Board.

Matt’s dedication to the law and his community reflects his commitment to fairness, integrity, and service—values he will bring to the bench as Judge of the Court of Common Pleas.
Honesty, Integrity, Justice: Choosing The Right Judge
The Court of Common Pleas handles cases that impact Butler County voters' everyday lives such as civil disputes, criminal cases, family matters, and more.

As a judge, my role would be to apply the law fairly, uphold the Constitution, and ensure justice for everyone who comes before the court. Judges must have integrity, impartiality, and a deep respect for the rule of law. They should make decisions based on the law as written.

When choosing a judge, voters should look at a candidate’s experience, judicial philosophy, and commitment to fairness. The courtroom should be a place where everyone is treated with dignity and where the law is applied with consistency and common sense.

I am committed to these principles and to serving Butler County with fairness, professionalism, and respect for the law.
